Have you ever wondered what the most expensive knife and the most expensive AK-47 in Counter Strike have in common? They are both Case Hardened skins!

In general, there are subtle differences between weapons (such as the AK-47 Case Hardened) and knives that affect the skin's rating. In our article, we will therefore look at both Case Hardened knives and weapons to give you a complete overview.

What makes Case Hardened Skins so special

The special feature of case hardened skins lies in their origin from real metallurgy. Case hardened skins reflect the colors that are created during the hardening process of metal. But this is where the pattern index comes into play.

The amount of blue visible on the skin varies depending on the pattern index. A higher proportion of blue makes the skin more desirable and therefore more valuable. If the term "pattern" is not quite clear to you, don't worry. We have a special pattern guide that clears up any ambiguities.

As already mentioned, the blue on case hardened skins is the decisive factor for their rating. A real highlight among the case hardened skins are the so-called "Blue Gems". These are skins that have a particularly high proportion of blue. As a rule, we speak of blue gems if the blue content is above the range of 55-65%, although this also depends on the weapon or knife in question.

Blue Gems are highly coveted in the community as they are not only aesthetically pleasing but also have a considerable value.

An alternative option, although not as popular as Blue Gems, is Gold Gems. This skin is characterized by the fact that it has almost no blue. How do I find out how well my case is hardened?

Assessing the quality of a Case Hardened skin requires an understanding of the specific weapon or knife. In general, Case Hardened skins are divided into different tiers, with Tier 1 containing the most desirable skins. The assignment to the individual tiers is based on the blue content, whereby a completely blue skin is assigned to Tier 1, for example. But how can you find out which tier your skin falls into?

One option is to use tables with pattern indices. You simply compare the pattern index of your own skin (How to find out your pattern index) with those in the table. For example, if your pattern index is 559 and this index is under Tier 2 in the table, you know that your skin is very good and you can use it for can probably sell above market price. Alternatively, browser extensions such as CSGO Trader can be installed. These show which animal your own skin belongs to in the Steam inventory.

Finally, there is the method of personal estimation, in which the blue component of the skin is assessed subjectively. However, we recommend this method to more experienced Counter-Strike traders, as it requires a certain amount of expertise to correctly estimate the proportion of blue and classify the skin accordingly.

The AK-47 Case Hardened - A prestigious skin

In the Counter-Strike community, the AK-47 Case Hardened enjoys a particularly prominent reputation and is often considered one of, if not the most popular skin.

With the AK Case Hardened, the placement of the blue on the weapon comes into play in addition to the blue content factor. The rule here is: the higher up the blue, the better the skin.

Due to the large surface area of the AK-47, there are many variations of the case hardened skin. This variety can be roughly divided into three categories: Blue, Gold and Mixed. Each category has its own charms and attracts different types of collectors. The fascinating palette of the AK Case Hardened makes it a unique skin in the Counter Strike world.

The AK Case Hardened can be found in the CS:GO Weapon Case and has therefore been in the game for a very long time, since 2013 to be precise, and is one of the oldest CS:GO skins.

What to look out for with case-hardened knives in particular

Case hardened skins are actually available for every knife in Counter-Strike.

A crucial aspect of case hardened knives is the distinction between the playside and backside. The playside is the side of the knife that is visible in play when it is held in the hand. It is therefore particularly good if the blue is present on this side. As with other Case Hardened skins, the rule of thumb for knives is: the more blue, the more desirable and valuable.

In contrast to the Ak-47 Case Hardened, the focus with knives is less on the positioning of the blue (apart from the fact that the blue should be on the playside), but rather on the percentage of blue. The blue percentage on the playside is considered, while the blue percentage on the backside is usually ignored. However, an intense blue on the backside can also be considered a bonus and can therefore increase the overall value of the case-hardened knife.

Why are Blue Gems so expensive?

The astronomical prices achieved by some Blue Gems are hard to ignore. The most expensive AK-47 Case Hardened changed hands for an impressive 400,000 dollars, while the most expensive Karambit worth a whopping 1.5 million dollars is. But why do these skins achieve such astronomical values?

Blue Gem skins are extremely sought-after, but at the same time incredibly rare. Demand far exceeds supply. The odds of pulling the best AK Blue Gem pattern are a vanishingly low 1 in 1000. What's more, you have to get an AK Case Hardened from the crate in the first place, for which the probability is only 3.2%. This AK must also be brand new, which in turn corresponds to a probability of around 14.6%. The overall probability of getting hold of such an AK-47 Blue Gem is therefore around 0.00047%. This impressively explains why these skins are so incredibly expensive.

We would like to add that many enthusiasts now see CS skins as an investment. Particularly solid skins such as the AK Case Hardened are specifically traded as long-term investments, which is driving prices up further. The combination of scarce availability, high demand and the growing trend of seeing CS skins as valuable investments is driving prices up.
