New weapon crates are always released through an update, which is sometimes linked to an operation. Recently Valve has been busy fixing CS2 bugs, but now that the major bugs have been fixed, a new crate may soon be released in CS2.
So when exactly are new weapon crates coming to CS2? No one can say for sure, all answers are pure speculation. However, a look at the past shows that at least one new weapon box has always been released every year.
In 2023, the major CS2 release brought only one new weapon box into play, as Valve many updates to fix of the actual game had to bring out. Slowly, however, CS2 is on a stable basis and Valve can once again take care of new content, such as an operation or new crates. This gives many players hope that more weapon crates will be released in CS2 in the future.
When were new crates released in Counter Strike in the past?
Since no one but Valve knows exactly when a new weapon crate will be released, the only way to make predictions for the future is to look at past data. The following table shows all CS:GO crates with their respective year of release.

The table clearly shows that Valve has released fewer and fewer weapon crates over time. At the beginning of CS:GO, Valve released a total of six crates per year. From 2017 to 2020, Valve released three new crates per year. In 2021 and 2022, only two new crates were released per year. Ultimately, only one new crate was added to the game in 2023. However, this could be because Valve was working intensively on CS2. Presumably we can look forward to In 2024, we can look forward to at least one new crate, but perhaps even two new weapon crates.
