In CS2 you can Weapon crates from the active drop pool or the rare drop pool. The active drop pool consists of the five newest crates, while the rare drop pool consists of 28 older crates. The probability of getting a drop from the rare pool is 1%.
The drop pools for weapon crates in CS2
In CS2 there are a total of 3 different pools to which the various weapon crates can be assigned.
- Active drop pool
- Rare drop pool (rare drop pool)
- Discontinued drop pool (discontinued drop pool)
The active drop pool for weapon crates in CS2
The active drop pool always consists of the five most recently released weapon crates. These are currently the following crates:

If you get a weapon box as a drop (once a week in the Supply package), then it has a probability of 99% that it belongs to the active drop pool. As the crates from the active drop pool are dropped most frequently, they also have the largest stock of all weapon crates. As a result, these crates have a relatively low market price, as there is a large supply of these crates.
The rare drop pool for weapon crates
The rare drop pool contains the most Counter Strike weapon crates, 28 of them to be precise. The probability of getting one of these crates dropped is just 1%. For this reason, these weapon crates are worth significantly more than the crates from the active drop pool. The rare drop pool contains the following weapon crates:
- Prism 2" weapon box
- CS20" gun case
- Prism" weapon box
- Weapon box "Danger zone"
- Weapon box "Horizon"
- Clutch" gun case

The most expensive crate that can be dropped in CS2
The most expensive crate that can be dropped in CS2 is the weapon crate "CS:GO", this crate is traded at around 80 euros on the Steam marketplace. It comes from the rare drop pool for weapon crates.
The Discontinued Drop Pool - These crates will no longer be dropped
The weapon crates from the discontinued drop pool can no longer be dropped. The only way to get these crates is to buy them via a marketplace. The set pool consists of six weapon crates.

Three of them are eSports crates that were sold at the time to raise money for the major prizes. The other three are relatively new weapon crates for which the reason why they are in the discontinued drop pool is not known.
When will new weapon crates be added to the active drop pool?
New weapon crates are added to the active drop pool when there is an update in which a new crate appears. Each new weapon crate is initially in the active drop pool. The last crate to be added to the active drop pool is the "Revolution" weapon crate. It was added on 09.02.2023 with the update "Box, capsule and kit!" has been added to Counter Strike.
When will weapon crates be added to the rare drop pool?
Whenever a new weapon crate is released and added to the active pool, another crate must be removed from the active drop pool. In most cases, this is the oldest of the crates in the active drop pool. Originally, this crate was always added to the rare drop pool. However, there have been exceptions in some cases with the latest crates and Valve has added these weapon crates directly to the set drop pool so that they can no longer be dropped at all.
When will crates no longer be dropped?
Weapon crates are no longer dropped in CS2 if they are in the set drop pool. No one can say when a crate will be added to this pool. There are no rules for when a crate can no longer be dropped and there is only speculation about which weapon crates Valve will exclude from the drop next.
