CS2 StatTrak Guide: Everything about the counter on the weapon

What does it mean when a skin is StatTrak?

If a skin is StatTrak, the Kills from this skin are counted on the weapon's counter. This means that it is always possible to see how many kills the player has made with this skin in Counter Strike.

This is how it works:

As soon as you kill another player with a weapon that has a skin that is StatTrak, the counter is automatically incremented by one.

The counter is reset to 0 every time the inventory of the skin is changed, which means that you only ever see the number of kills on the tracker that the player has actually made.

The probability that a skin is StatTrack

The probability that a Skin from a box of StatTrak is 10%. This means that on average every 10th skin you get from a crate will be StatTrak.

Making weapons StatTrack afterwards

Once a skin has been drawn in CS2, it can no longer be changed; this also applies to StatTrak. It is not possible to add the counter retrospectively. For this very reason, you should think carefully about the version of the skin you want before you buy it.

How much more is a skin with StatTrak worth

There are big price differences for the same skin with and without StatTrak. The same skin without StatTrak can be significantly cheaper than the same skin with the tracker. As a rule, a skin with StatTrak about 2-3 times more expensive than the same skin without StatTrak.

Knives are an exception to this rule. In most cases, they are worth just as much with StatTrak as the same knife without StatTrak.

Why are knives with StatTrak not worth more?

For some reasons, knives with StatTrak are not as desirable, which makes them hard to sell as there is little demand for them. As a result, the prices for StatTrak knives fall to the level of the same knife without StatTrak.

The reasons why StatTrak knives are so unpopular vary. Some reasons are:

  • The counter (carved into the knife) does not look good
  • You don't get many kills with the knife, so you don't need a tracker
  • Knives are already expensive anyway, so people don't want to pay more

Is it worth buying StatTrak skins?

Whether it is worth buying a skin with a stat track counter is always an individual decision. The vast majority of Counter Strike players don't care about the number of kills and therefore don't use the counter. Other people find it interesting to see how many kills they have achieved with a weapon in a certain period of time.

Of course, you also have to bear in mind that a StatTrak skin is significantly more expensive, which is why many people prefer to opt for a skin without StatTrak, as the skin with the tracker is simply too expensive.

Ultimately, it also depends on the respective skin whether it looks good at all with the counter on the weapon.

How best to get StatTrak kills

In CS:GO there were servers on which you could artificially farm StatTrak kills. This option is not yet available in CS2. Should this function be added, we will update the article here.

In the end, however, the most important thing is simply to play the game and not try to cheat your way to the highest possible counter. The counter is irrelevant and it is a greater success anyway if you have made all the kills of the StatTrak weapon in matchmaking.
