16 tips to get better at CS2 and win more games

We present 16 tips for CS2 that will help you to improve your win rate. If you internalize and learn these points, you are guaranteed to get better at Counter-Strike 2 and nothing will stand in your way of climbing the leaderboard.

1. train the right weapons

You should start by learning only a small selection of weapons. The reason for this is that you can learn much faster if you focus on a smaller selection of weapons. You should first have the most important weapons under control, e.g. know the spray pattern of the weapon, until you train other weapons.

Beginners in particular tend to play a lot of different weapons. That's great for trying things out, but when it gets serious, it's important to know your weapon and, above all, the weapon's spray. And this can be learned most effectively by concentrating on a small selection of weapons at the beginning.

We recommend that you start with just one of the two M4s, the AK-47, two MPs and two pistols. With these weapons you are equipped for all situations and can learn to use them properly. For example, you could start by learning the M4A1-S, the AK-47, the MAC-10, the MP9, the Glock-18 and the USP-S and then add other weapons such as the M4A4, FAMAS or Galil AR.

2. internalize the spray control

Spraying is an essential part of CS2. The only way to improve the spray control of a weapon is to memorize it and train it for a very long time. The muscle memory for the different spray patterns of the weapons must be internalized so that you no longer have to think about your spray control in the game.

A very good workshop card to learn your spray control is: Recoil Master - Spray Training. We recommend that you train your spray for at least 10 minutes before each CS2 session.

With regard to the first point, we would like to emphasize once again that you should start small first. For example, first learn the spray for the AK-47 and the M4A1-S so well that you can use it in the game and then start learning the spray for other weapons.

3. learning to tap

In addition to spray control, tapping is also very important in CS2. At long range, spraying is very ineffective and you should rather try to tap. You also need to train this so that you know exactly how fast you can tap with a weapon so that it remains accurate.

Keyword trigger discipline:

It is important to aim first and then shoot and not simply play according to the motto "spray and pray" if you want to get better in CS2. This means that you don't hold down left-click as soon as you make contact with the enemy and hope that a shot will hit, but that you sometimes wait a little and aim precisely at the head before you shoot.

To practise tapping, we recommend the workshop card Aim Botz - Aim TrainingIt is one of the most popular workshop maps and is even used by professionals for training.

4. correct peeking

Proper peeking gives you a huge advantage. If you know how to peek, you can see your opponent before he sees you or you can obtain information about the position of opponents with very little danger.

You should be familiar with the following types of peeks:

  • Fast Peek
  • Wide Peek
  • Jump Peek
  • Jiggle Peek

5. use grenades

The use of grenades is one of the most important points in CS2 and the influence of good grenades is often underestimated.

Part of using grenades correctly is having a good feel for how the grenades fly and fall so that you can throw them quickly from your hand. But it is also important to have line-ups ready so that you can throw good grenades from a safe distance.

Supporting other players with flashbangs or the ability to quickly extinguish Molotovs with a smoke are also good uses of grenades.

6. placing the crosshair correctly (crosshair placement)

Crosshair placement simply has to be right from a certain CS2 level. Your crosshair should always be at the opponent's head height, regardless of whether you are holding a spot or pushing around a corner yourself.

Of course, it is also important to know the maps and to know, for example, where it is sloping and where opponents can stand. You can get better crosshair placement above all by playing with active thinking about good corsshair placement.

Many beginners tend to look way too far down at the ground, so it's important to keep reminding yourself of good crosshair placement until you automatically have the crosshairs well placed. A tip if you are playing with friends: actively remind each other of good crosshair placement when you are watching each other.

7. learning maps (map callouts etc.)

You should know the cards you play inside out. First and foremost, it is important that you know the callouts of the card so that you can pass on precise information to your fellow players.

Furthermore, map understanding helps to understand where opponents might peek and in relation to the previous point (crosshair placement) it is important to know how high you need to aim at different corners so that your crosshair is always at head height.

In addition, it can be useful to know places where you can "barge" opponents through the wall and to know which team has a faster route to certain positions at the start of a round.

8. change positions in the game

We don't mean that you should cover the other bomb side, but that you change your position from round to round when holding a bomb side.

If you always stand in the same corner, your opponents will eventually understand exactly how to play optimally against you. By changing your position, you can surprise your opponents again and again and they won't be able to adjust to where you are standing.

Tip: If you are playing with friends, you can also try to play a boost. Most opponents don't expect this.

9. pay attention to the economy

In addition to aiming and shooting, economy plays a very important role in CS2. You need to know exactly when your team should do an eco, force or fullbuy.

The economy also involves developing a feeling for how much money the opposing team has so that you are not surprised by eco-pistol rushes.

10. communicate correctly with team members

Another decisive factor in winning or losing a CS2 round is communication within the team. You must learn to pass on important information quickly and accurately and understand the calls of your team members. In terms of learning maps, callouts are particularly important at this point.

11. warm up before playing

Just like the pros, you should also warm up before a matchmaking game. This can include a short aim, reflex and spray training session, for example.

We recommend the two workshop cards that we recommended in the sections "Internalizing the spray control" and "Learning to tap". With these two cards, which incidentally are also used by professionals for warming up, you can prepare yourself optimally for your matchmaking.

12. note sound

In order to hear everything from the opponents, the the right sound settings essential.

13. the right settings

In addition to the correct sound settings, other settings in CS2 can also give you an advantage. Make sure that your game always has enough FPS and Optimize your graphics settingsif you have felt that CS2 is jerking.

The correct mouse sensitivity is also important, the Setting the radar correctlya good crosshair and key assignments such as a Jumpthrow.

14. watching others play

If you can't play yourself, it can help to watch good players playing CS2. When watching, you should pay attention to how the player peeks or moves in order to learn something for yourself.

Of course you can watch professional games, but we recommend that you good streamers to watch. The disadvantage of professional games is that both teams are trained to the highest level and professional games can be very different from normal matchmaking games, as the professionals are much more coordinated in the team. It's better to find a streamer who plays matchmaking at a very high level and preferably explains a lot while playing.

15. analyze replays

One of the best ways to get better at computer games is to watch your own replays and analyze what you should have done differently in certain situations. If you no longer have to concentrate on playing, but are simply a spectator, you will notice many mistakes that you didn't even notice while playing. You can learn from these mistakes and avoid them in the next rounds.

16. play, play and play

Our last tip: Play more. You will only get better at CS2 by playing a lot and no master has ever fallen from the sky. Every pro started small at some point. Alongside the right training, a lot of playing time is the real key to getting better at Counter-Strike 2.

Summary - The best tips

As you can see, there are many different approaches to things you can do to get better in CS2. However, you can't work on all of them at the same time. We therefore recommend that you always focus on 2-3 points and learn them properly before moving on to the next points. It is best if you always combine a skill point with a knowledge point. For example: combine spray control with learning cards or combine tapping and learning line-ups.
